The METRO series had always been a bit underrated by the gaming community. The first two METRO games were known quality shooters that focus more on ambiance, deep and engaging plot, and tight gameplay instead of mindless run and gun found in many of its counterparts. Now the third in the series METRO: EXODUS releases today with hopes of garnering more of gamer's attention despite releasing in a crowded February. Here are some the critics views:
IGN 8.5: "It’s a frequently exhilarating and densely atmospheric journey across a Russian dystopia brimming with detail and deadly inhabitants, and well worth the trip for its consistently effective use of survival horror and hair-raising action". The game looks salvageable, and I expect it to perk up after a few patches. But, because of the bugs, even die-hard fans may want to wait for a while before they commit the time to get stuck in." GAMESPOT 8/10: "The open sandboxes may not be strongest addition, but the game still embraces the sense of vulnerability and post-apocalyptic terror alongside impact-full weapons used in refined combat and stealth scenarios." GAMERRANT 3.5/5: "Even with its technical issues, lack of genuine horror, and bland cast make it fall short of its predecessors, Metro Exodus is still a decent mix of the franchise’s traditional stealth/shooter gameplay and a semi-open world environment, with some truly stellar graphics to boost." To read the full review click here. Destructoid 7/10: "Metro Exodus is a tour-de-force in apocalyptic exploration. It offers a rich, evolving world, brought to life with stunning visuals, immersive sound and ghastly creatures. These thrills and chills are irritatingly tempered with menial tasks, poor voice acting, dull stealth and a soulless hero, all of which prevent Metro Exodus from achieving its true potential." With it being firmly placed on our recent most anticipated animated films of 2019 list a few weeks ago it clear that we have high hopes for FROZEN 2. Now with film's first trailer released today we can hardly contain our excitement, hoping all the months leading up to November would just hurry up and melt away. The first FROZEN wasn't the house of mouse best ever but we got a wonderful enchanted world with great lead characters and great comedy/action. Also while the film had some moments where the plot would go to a dark place it was mostly lighthearted. However, with the first trailer for FROZEN 2 we there was no cute songs about summer to be seen as it seems the sequel will be treading along the path of a more darker fantasy epic.
FINALLY! For the last few years it seems that an Janaury Nintendo Direct was an annual event. However, the big N pulled a fast one on us this year as Janaury came and went without any new Nintendo direct (we did get a mini indie showcase however). Thankfully we didn't had to wait too long as a new direct has been announced for this Wednesday Feburary 13 at 5pm ET.
Nintendo is giving the fans some love just in time for Valentine's day and with a 35 minutes runtime there are high hopes for some big announcements on new games as well as new gameplay/release dates on already revealed games. Expect new info on Fire Emble: Three House, Luigi Mansion 3 and Animal Crossing Switch at the very least but we are also crossing our fingers for a full Pokemon Gen 9 reveal. Whatever Nintendo got up there sleeves catch all of the direct right here:
With Disney pulling more and more of Marvel's digital content off Netflix to possible place them on their own upcoming streaming service, you would think Disney+ will be the only place to get new Marvel content online. Well...not quite as digital streaming service Hulu announced that they have penned a new deal with Disney to have 4 brand new adult animated shows be produce. The four series announced will be about Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K., Hit-Monkey, the Tigra & Dazzler Show, and Howard The Duck. I am personally intrigued about Hit-Monkey as it features a wronged Japanese snow monkey that is under the stewardship of a former American assassin's ghost and that just sounds bad-ass.
Code Geass R2 ended a long 10 ten years ago and along with Code Geass R1 is regarded as one of the best animes ever made by members here at Blue Crescent Studio. The original series run was just near perfect with the story, pacing and action blended so masterfully that by the time the credits rolled during the final episode we were moved to tears. For not only is one of our favourite show was ending but also because the final scene was such an profound heart warming spectacle. That final scene that had been firmly lodged in our memeories for all these years is what had our faces dancing in between happy and cringed when we saw the newly release trailer for the new Code Geass movie: Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection.
Here at Blue Crescent Studio one of our greatest joy is to bring to life just how unique and special Jamaican life is via the imaginative/creative world of animation. In this (very short) animated short we shed some light on the not so good part of Jamaican culture where there are some citizens that employ illegal methods to steal electricity from the Jamaican Public Service (JPS). Such an act is not only dangerous but of course an criminal offense so we thought to ourselves "what security measures could JPS established to stop this from happening?". And boom! our inspiration for our next project was born.
After having our storyboard established, we moved on creating our models, beginning with the wooden light pole. We surprisingly spent the largest about of production time here has we wanted the model and especially the textures to be as close as possible to the real thing.
Not to be outdone by production time on the wooden pole, the rural surroundings also cost a bit of time. This was due to getting the lightning just right and to be dynamic with the right shadows, and light hitting each model as close to perfect as possible. In the end we spent a little past 5 days outside post production editing and sound effects implementation. Rendering was also much quicker than our past projects as this was also our first time putting the still in beta Blender Evee through its paces. Evee still has many bugs to ironed out but in the end we got our latest short completed:
