Just like 'Souls-like', 'Rouglike' and 'Battle Royals' games, 'Looter Shooters' is the new sub-genre games people just can't get enough of. And, despite the colossal failure of EA's Anthem, Square Enix is entering the fray with one of their very own in the likes of Outriders. So did they knock it out of the park? Or is it doomed to meet the same fate as EA's demised 'looter shooter'? Here's the roundup: GAMEINFORMER (SCORE 9/10) 'Outriders isn’t revolutionary, and it’s not trying to be. Outriders is a well-thought-out shooter with expertly tailored RPG twists. It's an enjoyable ride that is made infinitely better by playing with friends, but not inherently hurt by running solo either. This game takes the best parts from other looter-shooters and the best aspects of sci-fi RPGs and blends these elements into an experience that is worth diving into because of its high replayability, customizable play style, and fun story. I'm already strapping in for another run. ' For the full review please visit here. GAMESPOT (SCORE 8/10) 'The moments where Outriders is taking daring swings at mixing disparate elements are when it's at its best. The game is surprisingly deft at combining things that shouldn't work together: Its story is often funny but similarly severe; its combat requires you to take cover and to charge; its abilities make you phenomenally powerful but prone to overestimating yourself. If you can find the balance in Outriders, People Can Fly's RPG-shooter finds ways to combine well-worn video game ideas into something new and fun. Especially when you're accompanied by friends and put the time in to really understand the game's systems, Outriders rewards you with epic battle moments and a sprawling scope. It left me wanting to continue venturing out into the wilds of Enoch to see what I might find there--and to smash whatever it was with seismic earthquake magic.' GAMESRADAR+ (SCORE 3.5/5) 'There is some gold glistening at the core of Outriders, which boasts a rock-solid combat system that will keep you entertained for well over 30 hours. But what happens after you're done riding out? Only time - and People Can Fly's work pipeline - will tell.' For the full review please visit here.
PC GAMER (SCORE 6.3/10) 'There's something here for folks that go bananas for the most granular of class customization—all those incremental class boosts are probably a dream to my most min-maxing of friends. It'd be easier to get excited about that stuff if Outriders' basics were as good as what else is out there. Game Pass feels like the perfect home for a divisive game like this that rubs players the wrong or right way depending on what you're looking for. It's a shame that PC Game Pass subscribers aren't getting the same deal, but I think Outriders is a safe skip either way.' For the full review please visit here. DESTRUCTOID (SCORE 7/10) 'It’s a lower bar to clear to be sure, but People Can Fly delivered what Bungie and other studios can't seem to do these days: a complete $60 game. Outriders is a flawed looter shooter that can fall into a rut with its core looting loop, but the gunplay is fun, and that's a decent-sized win. If you can grab two other people to recruit via Game Pass, it's a great way to spend some time.' For the full review please visit here. GAMING BOLT (VIDEO REVIEW) Overall, Outriders currently sits at a Metascore of 75 from 22 reviews(PS5). Not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but it won't exactly redefine the looter shooter genre. Mine you, it doesn't need to for it to be one of April's best games. -YOU MAY ALSO BE INTERESTED IN:
