If you are into the whole cyberpunk aesthetics and setting, then I have some great news for you. Not only do you have the awesome looking Cyberpunk 2077 to look forward to in November, but much earlier you can slash away as a deadly cyber ninja parkour assassin in GhostRunner. So, is this game a good opening act? Or are we better off waiting it out for November 19? Here's the review roundup: SHACKNEWS (SCORE 9/10) 'Ghostrunner will set your adrenaline racing and won’t let up until you’ve mastered its systems. And when you do reach that zen-like moment of precision and elegance, dancing on the edge of a blade between life and death, you’ll ask yourself, “Can I do better?” And that’s when Ghost runner will have you, truly and deeply.' DESTRUCTOID (SCORE 8.5/10) 'As I played through the roughly eight-hour campaign this week I couldn't shake the feeling that I was playing the unholy union of Hotline Miami and Mirror's Edge that I didn't know I was missing in my life. Through all of the frustration and cursing at myself for screwing up something that I knew I should have gotten right, I was still having a blast and loving every minute of the game. Though the story is complete for me, I'll most assuredly be returning to this to see how well I can hone my cyberpunk ninja skills.' For the full review please visit here. IGN (SCORE 8/10) 'With its breakneck pace and skill-heavy gameplay, Ghostrunner is a speedrunner’s dream. But even beyond that demographic, this is a great first person action game that feels punishing but fair. You may die hundreds of times, but instantaneous respawns and generous checkpointing ensure that Ghostrunner’s challenging combat and platforming never become a chore. More than all of that though, Ghostrunner is jam packed with a great variety of enemies, mechanics, and special powers that constantly changed up how I approached its many unique encounters. That meant it always felt fresh, and by the end of its six to eight hour campaign, I was all too eager to jump back in for seconds.' For the full review please visit here.
GAMESPOT (SCORE 7/10) 'When Ghostrunner rips, it really rips. Wall-running, jumping, sliding, and cutting through enemies as you go is empowering and impressive. For a good portion of the game, you'll only experience how impressive it feels to dart around a room in short bursts, but even that's enough motivation to keep you pushing forward to master the art of robot ninja parkour. There's bound to be a lot of frustration along the way, so it isn't all smiles, exactly, but the rush you feel in the moment as you perfectly run a room is worth the grit.' Compared to a 2D platformer, the motion seems faster, the timing is tighter, and the penalty of missing a jump — that feeling of the ground rushing toward you as you fall — is way more intense. Ghostrunner is a perfect example of what happens when a developer works within the limitations of an underappreciated genre and pulls the absolute best from it.' Not bad for an AA game launching so close to the launch of the big AAA next-gen games. The only problem for me personally, I always found it a bit difficult to play first-person parkour games due feeling a bit sick/dizzy while playing, but here's hoping everyone else enjoys this gem when it launches tomorrow. -YOU MAY ALSO BE INTERESTED IN:
