NieR Automata was one of the best games of the PS4/Xbox One generation. It was so good that by the end of the credits, I was already chomping at the bits for more. It seems Square Enix heard my cries and decided to give me a "new' game in the series this month. NieR Replicant ver. 1.22474487139... is an updated version of NieR Replicant, previously only released in Japan. Should Automata fans be excited to return to the NieR world? Or better off waiting for Automata2? Here's the roundup: PC GAMER (SCORE 9/10) 'Like the original game, it has never even heard of subtlety. But like the original, it's also heartfelt. It's protean, constantly playing with genre and style in ways that feel visionary even eleven years later. And it has some of the best goddamn music in the medium. Listen, I don't know how people are going to respond to Nier in 2021, even with all the new bells and whistles. It's far from perfect. But I'm telling you: it's worth it. The original is one of my favorite games ever made, and the remaster improves it. Nier is special.' For the full review please visit here. IGN (SCORE 8/10) 'As a “Version Up” of the original Nier, Replicant Ver. 1.22 does a respectable job of updating the graphics and combat of the 2010 cult classic to a more modern standard by dramatically improving its environments, animations, and performance, while also going the extra mile and adding excellent voice acting to every single character in its world. It definitely shows its age in its combat and quest design, however, and while the improvements to combat certainly help smooth things out it still suffers from repetitive enemies, mundane sidequests, and a lack of evolution over the course of the 35 to 40-hour adventure you’ll need to complete to see all the endings. Just push through it and get to what’s truly excellent about Nier Replicant: its story and characters, both of which are still among the strongest I’ve seen in the genre.' SCREEN RANT (SCORE 4.5/5) 'NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139... isn't just a comprehensive remake that makes some startling updates - it's also a proof of concept for the series moving forward. The story holds up, the refined combat is engaging, and its charm and melancholy both resonate with a player long after they've put the controller down. In revisiting NieR's past, it becomes clear just how bright its future is. NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139... is something worth playing in 2021 and beyond, and a one-of-a-kind JRPG that continues to challenge convention even a decade after it first began to do so.' DESTRUCTOID (SCORE 8.5/10) 'There aren't many games like NieR Replicant, and I'm not just talking about in the modern era, but since 2010 as a whole. Whatever power that be helped Yoko Taro become world-famous, to the point where he can keep making these weird masterpieces, in any format: thank you.' For the full review please visit here. GAMESPOT (SCORE 8/10) 'I'm not going to lie, Nier Replicant made me ugly-cry on several occasions. Kainé, Emil, and Weiss will win your heart with their earnest and endearing personalities, making their tragic journey with you and tremendous story moments hit hard. Despite some significant gameplay enhancements, the lengths you have to go to see the story all the way through will be a test of your willpower. But for all its antiquated designs retained from the original version, it's worth the effort in the end. Thus, Nier Replicant is essential for anyone who has love for Automata, and it's a special experience on its own.' For the full review please visit here. GOD IS GEEK (VIDEO REVIEW) Overall, NieR Replicant Ver. currently sits at a Metascore of 83 from 62 reviews(PS4). I adored NieR Automata, but never played the original game in the series. So, this modern upgraded version is just what the doctor ordered. -YOU MAY ALSO BE INTERESTED IN:
