Netflix recently nabbed an anime of the year award thanks to their original produced anime, DEVILMAN CRYBABY and are now looking to possibly repeat the trick with their new series, Cannon Busters. The show launched on the platform today, and Netflix celebrated with the release of a new trailer. Based on LeSean Thomas’ ( of The Boondocks fame) comic book series of the same name, Cannon Busters follows an unlikely trio: there’s Philly the Kid, an immortal outlaw; S.A.M., an aggressively upbeat friendship droid; and Casey Turnbuckle, a maintenance droid. Traveling in Philly the Kid’s shape-shifting Cadillac, the trio embark in search of S.A.M.’s best friend, the missing prince of a besieged kingdom. The trailer gave us a first look at some of the crazy action we can expect along with a motley crew of interesting and likeable cast of characters. There is potential for the show to be an instant classic and immediately reminds me of the outstanding Sci-Fi anime series, Outlaw Star and Cowboy Beebop. Of course, the jury is still out to see if this series comes anywhere close to those greats, but I for one, can't wait to put up my feet with some of my favourite snacks and get my binge on.
