If you are a gamer and also spent every waking minute of yesterday glued to a screen during Transfer Deadline Day, it's highly likely that you are also a FIFA game fan. Yes, the annual start of the footy season means the launch of the latest game in the series is upon us. So, is this year's edition something to celebrate like a last-minute winning goal? Or burst our bubble like the eventual VAR ruling that takes away the goal for a pinky toe being offsides? Here's the review roundup: GAMESPOT (SCORE 8/10) 'Career mode is still a mixed bag, then, but it's reassuring that EA has made some additional moves to try and freshen it up. If you do grow tired of simming through training sessions and managing sharpness, FIFA 21 is still chock full of other stuff to do, whether you want to head to the streets of Paris to show off your skills, hop into Ultimate Team with a friend, or play through a season on Pro Clubs. This is a substantial package that's propped up by exciting gameplay that puts the onus squarely on attacking football. There are moments of frustration on defense when the balance doesn't feel quite right, but then you'll go down the other end and score a Puskás Award contender that makes you forget why you were mad in the first place.' Over time, the grinding leads to burnout and boredom, and the gear and rewards you’re working so hard to obtain are rarely satisfying enough to make the chase worthwhile. Nailing the fundamentals is important, but it takes more than that to be a real winner.' For the full review please visit here. IGN (SCORE 7/10) 'Through small tweaks and refinements, FIFA 21 plays as well as it has done in recent memory, but lacks the relatively big features that are usually used to justify a new version of an annually released game. Attacking is fun and fluid, defending is a real challenge and an art to master, but goalkeeping leaves a lot to be desired and the AI is inconsistent in several ways. Career Mode has received small enjoyable additions but has not seen the overhaul I’m still wishing for and feels like an opportunity missed, while Volta still struggles to prove its relevance. All in all, FIFA 21 is a year of small improvements with much to enjoy, but little to shout about.' For the full review please visit here.
GAMESRADAR (SCORE 3/5) 'The moment-to-moment action may be better than last year's game, but this is nothing more than a glorified roster update. Only Career Mode fans have reason to celebrate. Both football games need to step up significantly on next-gen. As home consoles enter an era of unprecedented potential, in terms of pure fun neither FIFA 21 nor PES 2021 get anywhere close to those respective series’ PS2 heyday.' For the full review please visit here. EUROGAMER (SCORE n/a) 'I struggle to think about FIFA 21 outside the context of its evil money-spinner, but for the sake of argument, I'll give it a shot. Here we have a fun, over-the-top football game with loads of modes and meaningful improvements across the board. But there is no big new feature. FIFA 21 is like a festival without a headline act.' Last year's version managed a score of 79 so, no great improvement it seems, but let's be real here for a momment...it's FIFA! You know you are going to buy it anyway. -YOU MAY ALSO BE INTERESTED IN:
