In a month filled to the brim with sequels, Doom Eternal sticks out as arguably the most anticipated. Being a follow up to the excellent 2016 reboot, many of us would have been perfectly fine with more of the same. Luckily for us, we are getting so much more such as new mechanics like high-difficulty Slayer Challenges, additional upgrade resources including Sentinel Crystals, and the ability to take control of some enemy units. So does it live up to the hype? Here's what the critics believe: DESTRUCTOID (Score 8.5/10) 'Doom Eternal keeps the strong foundation built back in 2016 intact, while adding some of its own panache in the process. I think we can officially declare that the last iteration wasn't just a lone fluke, and that Doom is back in the shooter spotlight where it belongs.' For the full review please visit here. IGN (Score 9/10) 'Simply put, Doom Eternal is one of the best first-person shooter campaigns I’ve played in years. As the second game of its kind it’s lost some of its novelty but none of the joy of its intense and furious combat style. This excellent refinement of the already outstanding 2016 reboot makes you an unspoken deal: if you can keep up with it, it will keep up with you. It continually teaches you how to play faster, smarter, and more efficiently, with lots of options at every step of the way to tailor fights to your prefered slaying style, and it’s an absolute blast along the way.' When you have the rare moment between feeding one demon its own heart and breaking another demon’s arm and hammering the freshly protruding bone through the demon’s skull, take a breath to admire the engineering and artistry that makes your actions possible, how the world encourages playful movement, how the specific design of an arena and the placement of each enemy invites you to chain your violence in one ecstatic flourish. Always be moving, but never rush.' For the full review please visit here. GAMESRADAR+ (Score 3.5/5) 'If you can bite your lip and endure some routinely frustrating levels built around platforming, then you're going to have one hell of a good time with Doom Eternal. It's a fast, smart, and frantic shooter that seems to find real delight in testing your endurance. It's an outrageous and ridiculous pantomime where you are bound by blood to the unrelenting cadence of the action.' For the full review please visit here. GAMESPOT (Score 8/10) 'Though it can take a bit to get the hang of it, the intricacies of Doom Eternal's combat, combined with its enhanced mobility and option-heavy level design, create a ton of white-knuckle moments that elevate everything that made Doom 2016 work so well. Its combat is just as quick and chaotic, but requires you to constantly analyze everything that's happening in order to come out victorious. Once you get the hang of the rhythm of Doom Eternal, it'll make you feel like a demon-slaying savant.' For the full review please visit here. GAMEXPLAIN (VIDEO REVIEW) Overall, Doom Eternal currently sits at a Metascore of 87 from 17 reviews (PS4). In yesterday's review roundup of Animal Crossing, I stated that it was the perfect game in aiding us to escape the harsh reality of the COVID-19 Pandemic with its cutesy artsyle and tranquil gameplay. Doom Eternal, despite its realistic gore and high octane gameplay, works just as well, as we get to blow off steam by blasting our way through hell. Honestly, ain't gaming great.... -YOU MAY ALSO BE INTERESTED IN:
