Back in 2017, Nioh pulled off something none of us knew we wanted...A Samurai DARK SOULS! The game was much more than that to be fair but, it subtle changes to the tried and true Souls gameplay that even have some believing that it even bested the Dark Souls creators' own stab at Ninja Souls. Nioh 2 is promising more of the same but, more refined. So does these changes make for a better game than the sequel? Here's the review roundup: GAMEINFORMER (Score 8.5/10) 'Nioh 2, like Nioh before it, is an unrelenting and extremely punishing ride that has you weighing every resource available. Despite some flaws, this experience carves you from an unrefined button-mashing flailing pustule into a precision-striking samurai.' For the full review please visit here. IGN (Score 9/10) 'Nioh 2 is an impressive evolution of its predecessor, strengthening everything that was already great, while mostly leaving its already existing issues alone. Its stellar combat is elevated by the addition of Soul Cores, Burst Counters, and the ways in which those two main new mechanics affect enemy AI and how you approach battles. It’s depth is impressive, even though that can also make it feel a little overwhelming due to how much time must be spent managing Nioh 2’s many systems. If you’re up to the challenge, Nioh 2 is no doubt one of the most difficult and rewarding games of this generation.' For the full review please visit here. GAMESRADAR+ (Score 4.5/5) 'Even playing solo, while Nioh 2 still doesn’t quite balance the immediacy of its action with the depth of its RPG and loot systems, that hasn’t put me off playing it any more than the hundreds of deaths I’ve suffered at its hands. Its combat is remarkable, requiring strategy and skill and giving back so much in return, in a way that makes it one of the best games of its kind.' For the full review please visit here.
DESTRUCTOID (Score 9/10) 'If there's one point I want to get across above all others, it's this: Nioh 2 isn't as revelatory as the first game, but that shouldn't be held as a mark against it – at least not this time. Team Ninja was right to iterate and expand carefully. Nioh got so much right on the first go. While the new prequel storyline suffers from a slow and disconnected start, just about every other aspect of Nioh 2 feels upgraded. This is a finely-tuned sequel that fans will obsess over for years to come.' GAMESPOT (Score 8/10) 'At times, I wondered if maybe some of these bosses should be a little shorter, as there were many bosses where I felt I had mastered their patterns but couldn't finish because they landed a single one-hit-kill late in the fight. Ultimately, that excruciating difficulty and the feeling it evokes are baked into Nioh's DNA, though, and its boss fights remain compelling even as they vex and frustrate. Though it sometimes feels like a curse as you play, it is a testament that Nioh 2 successfully grabs and holds your complete attention so close for so long.' For the full review please visit here. Overall, Nioh 2 currently sits at a Metascore of 86 from 59 reviews (PS4) suggesting that the game is fantastic and is just as good -if not better- than the first game. As the world does its best in these trouble times, kicking back and slaying tonnes of Demons (Remember Doom Eternal is also on its way) may just what the Doctor ordered. -YOU MAY ALSO BE INTERESTED IN:
