You would think that with the recent success of Fortnite & PUBG on mobile platforms that a pocket-size Call of Duty for your phone would be a no brainer. Well, Activision also saw those dollar signs and took action as the company yesterday announced their new mobile game Call of Duty Mobile for Android & IOS.
This Call of Duty will be totally free to play and incorporates all maps, modes, weapons, and characters from across the Call of Duty franchise. Want to gun down noobs at Nuke Town while waiting at the doctor's? Yep, that is now doable as the game will give you access to fan-favourite modes such as Team Deathmatch, Search and Destroy and Free-For-All. Furthermore, Activision and mobile game developers Tencent are teasing that, in addition to classic multiplayer, there will be other modes to look forward to (I will bet my car that blackout mode will come eventually).
Chris Plummer, VP, Mobile at Activision stated that “We are delivering the definitive, first person action experience in a new mobile title with incredible graphics and visceral Call of Duty gameplay. Together with the amazing team at Tencent, we’re bringing together a collection of the most beloved maps, competitive modes, familiar characters and signature weapons from across this storied franchise into one epic experience for the first time on mobile.”
This all sounds great but, with the massive sales Nintendo's Switch continuous to rack up and the millions of its users being FPS starved, it is a bit surprising a mobile version of Call of Duty came before a Switch version. Nonetheless, if the controls work fine and micro-transactions are kept to a minimum (or outright excluded) we remain excited for the game's release (No date was given but, there will be a public beta in the summer).
