With Illumination Entertainment working on a new Minions and that yet to be revealed Mario film, it would have been easy for their follow up to the surprise hit Sing to get lost in the shuffle. Sing 2 is still on track for a Christmas release, but to keep hype growing, we got a brand new trailer yesterday (a whopping three minutes and thirty-eight second in length trailer) 6 months in advance.
"On Independence Day weekend 2021, Buster, Meena, Rosita, Gunter, Johnny and Ash prepare for a bigger stage and a brighter spotlight as they leave the Moon Theater for the big city in Sing 2. From Illumination Entertainment, the creators of Despicable Me, Minions and The Secret Life of Pets, comes the follow-up to its smash all-audience event film about the transformative power of music. The next chapter in the series from returning writer/director Garth Jennings welcomes back Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon, alongside Scarlett Johansson, Taron Egerton, Nick Kroll and Tori Kelly. Sing 2 hits theaters Christmas 2021."
This trailer got me pumped as well as a bit worried it showed too much. But it definitely looks big on heart, even more so than its predecessor, and a worthy follow up. This could end up being a big year for Illumination.
