Major gaming publisher Konami had been on the receiving end of major criticism and hate from parts of the gaming community for some time now. Most of it came in the wake of Metal Gear Solid's creator Hideo Kojima's controversial exit from the company in 2017 that saw many gamers outright avoid purchasing any games that dare have the Konami logo printed on the box. Complete missteps like the release of the horrifyingly bad Metal Gear Solid: Survive last year further pushed away loyal supporters that grew up enjoying the good ole days of Contra and Castlevania. So how do you get these gamers back? Give them a reminder of why they fell in love with you in the first place. In step, an announcement of three anniversary collects of some your greatest arcade hits, Castlevania and HOT DIGGIDY DAM! FREAKING CONTRA!
The Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection will be released first on April 18, 2019, featuring the likes of the '80s - Haunted Castle, Typhoon (A-JAX), Nemesis (Gradius), Vulcan Venture (Gradius II), Life Force (Salamander), Thunder Cross, Scramble, and TwinBee to play. The Castlevania Anniversary Collection will be next in line for release in the following summer and feature eight games as well. However, only four were announced - Castlevania (NES), Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge (GB), Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (NES), and Super Castlevania IV (SNES). Last but definitely not lease, will be our most anticipated of the three, The Contra Anniversary Collection will release sometime also in summer. This collection will also feature eight games, but only Contra (Arcade), Super Contra (Arcade), Super C (NES), and Contra III: The Alien Wars (SNES) have been announced so far.
If this is how Konami plans to get back into the good graces of gamers, then we are all for it. Heck, I hope they will also release a Metal Gear Solid collection one day. I am already drooling over the prospect of playing Contra anywhere and everywhere with a drop in drop out 2 player multiplayer. For more gaming news check out the Call of Duty Mobile game.
