The Toy Story series had always held a special place in my heart. The first film was our introduction to the creative genius of Pixar Animation Studio, sparking a love for computer animation that helped lead to the creation of Blue Crescent Studio. This love also goes a little deeper than that. As a child, I loved playing with my toys with my imagination taking us on countless adventures, so this film series definitely spoke to me. Now, after twenty-five years, we have arrived at the end with the promise to expect a roller-coaster of emotions before the credits begin rolling. So...did Toy Story 4 delivered? Here are five of some of the top film critics review.
THE GUARDIAN 3/5:
'Toy Story 4 also joins the X-Men and the Men In Black in trying to achieve a bit more gender balance, and this is something it does with artless persuasiveness and an implication that it isn’t just the kids who are growing up, it’s the toys themselves. I’m happy to see it happen. Toy Story 4 isn’t at all bad. But it’s time to let go.' For the full review please visit here SLATE: 'The choices Woody and the other characters make as the movie draws to a close don’t feel as necessary as the ending to Toy Story 3 did, but the emotions they evoke are similar: nostalgia for a lost past, hope for a yet-unknown future, affection for long-familiar companions.' IGN 9.5/10:
'The Toy Story series has always been just as satisfying for adults as for kids, but this might be the first film that actually feels more relatable to the grown-ups, offering a surprisingly nuanced tale of coping with change and moving on after loss. While Toy Story 3 felt like the perfect ending for these characters, Toy Story 4 offers an unexpected epilogue that’s just as meaningful as the films that came before it. It may not have been necessary, but somehow, it still feels right.' For the full review please visit here AZCENTRAL 3.5/5: 'Toy Story 4,” then, exists as both a continuation of a perfect trilogy, but also outside it. The “Toy Story” saga felt fully complete without it, which makes this a movie that doesn’t really need to exist, but whose existence doesn’t diminish the whole, either.' Overall, the reviews seem more on the side of positive. Also, we must mention the film currently sits at an astonishing 100% out of 100 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. The rest of us will get our chance to see just how good the film is when it officially releases on June 21st (US date). Toy Story 4 is the latest of many highly anticipated animated films that are set for release this year. Check out our most anticipated here.
