The original Teen Titans that first aired on Cartoon Network back in 2003 was, In my opinion, a near masterpiece in storytelling, character development and animation. It also had arguably the best version of Slade Wilson/Deathstroke in any medium ever. The show's quality may have dipped in its final seasons but, I too like so many other super fan shed grown man tears when it was prematurely cancelled. Now DC/WB animation is bringing them back but with one big catch.
DC and Warner Bros. animations via an exclusive trailer over at IGN, announced a new Teen Titans GO movie Teen Titans Go! vs Teen Titans, that sees the current wacky version of the team taking on their serious depictions from the original show.
Plot Synopsis from IGN
"In Teen Titans Go! Vs. Teen Titans, the two teams are pitted against each other when villains from each of their worlds join forces. The two very different Titan teams will need to set aside their differences and work together to combat Trigon, Hexagon, Santa Claus (yes, Santa Claus) and time itself in order to save the universe."
Many fans of the original are already branding this movie as a shameless cash grab that besmirches Teen Titans 2003's legacy. I, on the other hand, will not be heading down to my local pitchfork and torch store just yet. While Teen Titan Go stomped on my fond memories of the original show, I had grown to love it as its own show in its own era. I am excited to take it all in when Teen Titans Go! Vs. Teen Titans will hit Blu-ray and Digital later this year. For more on all things animation check out this latest add on for Blender.
