Hot off the heels of the successful remake of Resident Evil 2, Capcom has a remake of Resident Evil 3 lock and loaded for release this Friday. This latest remake shares the same over the shoulder gunplay from last year's remake along with a brand new PvE multiplayer to up its value. Capcom is very much keen to repeat 2's success but, does RE 3 Remake match its quality? Here's the review roundup: IGN (Score 9/10) 'Like Resident Evil 2 before it, Resident Evil 3’s 2020 remake does an amazing job of recapturing the horror and tension of the late ‘90s original while completely modernizing its gameplay. It plays like a 2020 game because it is a 2020 game. The classic world is brought to life in glorious detail, and smart level design makes exploring it a delight and replaying it almost compulsory. If only all remakes could be this good; bring on the next one.' For the full review please visit here. DESTRUCTOID (Score 8/10) 'The remake of Resident Evil 3 is going to be divisive, just as the original was. While the action enhancements help the game mechanically (to the point where I wouldn't mind seeing them in other remakes), the stripped-down focus and removal of some of the original's weirder experiments hurt it. That all said, I'm still up for a yearly playthrough of both the original and the remake.' For the full review please visit here. GAMEINFORMER (Score 9/10) 'With this remake, Capcom has greatly improved one of my least-loved entries in the series. Resident Evil 3’s greater focus on action affords you fewer opportunities to stop and think, but Jill's adventure is an incredible thrill ride. From the first moment that Nemesis burst through the wall and reached out with one of his tendrils, I felt my heart begin to race. I don’t think it slowed down again until the credits rolled.' GAMESRADAR+ (Score 4/5) 'The single player however is decent enough that the multiplayer is just a bonus. That said the main campaign does feel brief and light - I clocked a 9 hour completion time that included plenty of backtracking to find the few upgrades and extras scattered around. As I mentioned, there’s fewer puzzles, or multistage lock systems to unreveal, favoring instead a more direct progression of door opening. It lacks the breadth of the last remake in that sense but with the focus more on action it suits a faster pace and the balance still creates satisfying, albeit lighter, reimagining for the series.' GAMESPOT (Score 6/10) 'As a remake, Resident Evil 3 not only falls short of honoring its source, but it also doesn't quite stick the landing as a standalone horror experience. Even without taking into account the original game, or its predecessor, RE3 struggles to keep up with its pace amid a clashing of elements from survival horror and standard action. While it has a strong start and gives its principal villain some great moments, this truncated retelling of the concluding game from the original Resident Evil trilogy doesn't do it proper justice.' With the RE 2 remake having a universal acclaim 91 score, one would get the impression that 3 remake failed to hit the same highs as its predecessor. However, we must note the majority of these reviews were based solely on the single-player campaign and, the reviews score could improve later if the multiplayer proves to be fun. Once again, Resident Evil 3 Remake releases this Friday, April 3 for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. -YOU MAY ALSO BE INTERESTED IN:
