Football fans have the World Cup, Athletics fans have the Olympics, NFL...the Super Bowl but for eSports Fighting game fans...our premier event each year is definitely is Evolution. 2019's edition was extra special for Jamaican esports fans as it was the first international competition the country had official national representation. Our competitors did well, and despite ultimately falling just short, the experience would have been deemed invaluable. Thus, the wait for this year's edition was becoming excruciating. Good news, with the 9 main games being revealed last night, we move one step closer to the World's greatest fighting game tournament. This year's competition will undoubtedly feel a bit familiar as 7 of the 9 announced games are returning from EVO 2019. Stalwarts such as Street Fighter 5, Smash Ultimate, Tekken 7 were, of course, revealed but, the likes of DragonBall FighterZ, Soul Calibur 6, Samurai Shodown and especially Under Night In Birth were no guarantees. The lone new entry announced was a game that is not even out as yet, Granblue Fantasy Versus. Many view this as the right replacement for BlazBlue Tag (both are published by the same company) with its anime aesthetics and beautifully animated over the top flashy moves. The real shocker was the announcement of a special 20th Anniversary 8 man tournament for the fighting game classic, Marvel vs Capcom 2. Being one of the games that help EVO become what it is today, many fans are ecstatic for its return. The Legendary Marvel vs Capcom 2 returns to EVO's Main Stage! The other real shocker was the omission of Mortal Kombat 11. Released last year, MK11 was believed by many to be the best in the series but misses out on joining its predecessors as EVO games. Sadly, No Joker Grand Finals at this Year's Evo. As for Jamaican competitors who wish to represent the country at this year's event, they will have to earn the opportunity. This is done by topping the national ranking for each game respectfully. These rankings are finalized after the conclusion of various national esports events that are officially sanctioned by the national governing body of esports on the island, the JAMAICAN ESPORTS INITIATIVE (JEI).
