After a year of mini directs, partner showcases and delays in 2020, fans of the big N prayed, pleaded with and hoped Nintendo would return to the more traditional large scale Directs this year. Well, good things come to those that wait as the house of Mario finally gave us a whopping 50 minutes long direct yesterday. A lot was shown, but as per usual, we have picked out our favourite announcements from the event. Xenoblade chronicles 2 got some love in smashAs a huge fan of the Xenoblade series, it is current regret of mine that I still have the latest entry in Nintendo's big RPG series on the back burner (a new baby leaves little time for 200Hrs+ game). That said, I campaigned for a rep from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 to be included in Super Smash Bros Ultimate from the very beginning, but even I was surprised that Pyra/Mthrya was finally revealed. No More Heroes 3 release dateNo More Heroes 3 may not be on most people's most anticipated Switch games, but I have been giddy with delight since its first reveal. After it was hit with an unfortunate delay, I was eager to know exactly when I would be able to get my hands on it, and during yesterday's direct, I finally got my answer (along with a cool new gameplay trailer). Skyword Sword gets hd-edSo yeah...no, we didn't get that 'OMG' new footage of Breath of the Wild 2. Sadly that comes later this year...hopefully. What we got in this Direct is news that its predecessor The Legend of Zelda Skyword Sword is getting an HD port to the Switch. Now, with all-new button configuration if you weren't interested in waggle. Bayo...I Mean Splatoon 3 brought the curtains downThe true big surprise of the evening was the reveal that the Splatoon series will not be a part of Nintendo's 'one per console generation' as previously led to believe. It has been 4 years since Splatoon 2 so, it does feel like it is time for a new one to hatch. Here's hoping for more refinement to the formula as well as new exciting modes (battle royal perhaps?). And...that was it. Yep, many games were shown, but honestly, it wasn't the greatest Direct of all time. Sure they were other honourable mentions, such as a new Monster Hunter Rise trailer, and a Mario Golf but all in all, it was a little disappointing.
