One of the best things about Will of the Wisps as well as its predecessor was the fact that they best symbolized how well Microsoft has done this generation to diversify its gaming catalogue. That game was constantly compared to the legendary games of the 'Metroidvania' sub-genre but, earned its respect as an amazing game in its own right after its release. Thus, people questioned if relatively new developers Moon Studio could pull it off again with Will of the Wisps. So did they? Here's the Roundup: Gameinformer (Score 9.5/10) 'The story is fantastic, the world is breathtaking, and all of that pales in comparison to the wonderfully made gameplay that soars both as a platforming and combat game. Moon Studios has outdone itself with Will of the Wisps, delivering an experience that doesn’t have any lulls, makes the player feel clever, and just keeps getting better as it goes.' POLYGON (Score n/a) 'Ori and the Will of the Wisps offers a gorgeous world to explore and a varied, creative series of abilities and tasks that guide my exploration and help me see more of this wonderful place. It expands my options in combat and offers me more to do, and mostly benefits from that added complexity, while losing some of its focus in the process. Overall, however, it’s a worthy trade off.' GAMESPOT (Score 8/10) 'How the story addresses that tragedy is significantly sadder, and stands as a moment of haunting animation that will stay with me more than any other single image from the game. That finality could signal that this is the last Ori game, a farewell to the fantastical world and memorable characters that made Moon Studios such a standout developer from its very first effort. If that is the case, you could hardly ask for a better send-off. Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a remarkable synthesis of artful design and beautiful moments.' Its many new elements expand on and add to the first game’s fun without bogging it down or becoming overcomplicated. And that’s really the best praise you can give a sequel - it stays true to the spirit of the original, doubles down on what made it great, and gives you more stake in the world and options to navigate it. Ori and the Will of the Wisps is an excellent heartfelt follow-up that pushes the series to new heights.' For the full review please visit here. GAMESRADAR+ (Score 4.5/5) 'There are a few minor stumbles here and there, but make no mistake: I adore Ori and The Will of the Wisps. It's one of the best platformers ever made, and it's an easy front-runner for game of the year. If you liked the first game, you will love this one. And if you haven't experienced Ori's story, you owe it to yourself to dive in now, especially with both games now on Xbox Game Pass. I'll be replaying this game, listening to its soundtrack, and reminiscing over its characters for years to come.' For the full review please visit here. Gamexplain (Video Review) Overall, Ori and the Will of the Wisps currently sits at a Metascore of 90 from 43 reviews (Xbox One) suggesting that the game is fantastic and is just as good -if not better- than the first game, Ori and the Blind Forest. The Xbox Series X may be on its way with a slew of exciting new next-gen titles but, we must not forget about the amazing titles this gen is giving us up onto the end. -YOU MAY ALSO BE INTERESTED IN:
