During Nintendo's final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate direct, game director Masahiro Sakurai pull off another one his trademark trolling with a unlikely character reveal trailer for one of Mario's traditional foes Piranha Plant. Sakurai went on to state the fighter would be free for a limited time and arrived sometime in February as DLC. Well Sakurai and his team must have been working morning, noon, and night has the character was made available for download since last night thanks to the new version 2.0 patch. Also you still can get the fighter for free if you redeem your physical copy of smash ultimate or digitally purchase a copy before the 31st of January. Bit of warning though, as it is widely reported that using the character in the game mode 'All Star Mode' will erase your game files. This mode so far seems to be the only one that will cause this to happened so enjoy destroying noobs online to your heart's content.
Piranha Plant is undoubtedly the main focus of the new patch however, the patch also came with a plethora of changes (both buffs and nerfs) to almost all of the existing characters. Even better, Nintendo somehow finally learned that fans actually like reading through pages of patch notes and thus officially released a substantial listing of most of the changes made here on their website.
