Hankering for some open-world Breath of Wild type of game and Age of Calamity just ain't cutting it? Well, my friend, Ubisoft got your back with their third open-world title in quick succession, Immortals Fenyx Rising. Sure it ain't a BOTW clone, but base on early impressions and trailers it does seem to mass up the best of Zelda with a heavy dose of Assassin Creed, all wrapped up into Greek Mythology blanket. But does it all come together? Find out on the next episode of the review roundup: GAMESPOT (SCORE 7/10) 'Immortals Fenyx Rising is far from perfect--but it is good. It stumbles frequently as it explores Greek myths through a new lens, its best features are borrowed, and for as large and fun as its world is, it always feels like you're on a guided tour instead of really exploring it. But even as it lives in the shadow of better games, its puzzles, combat, and open-world loop come together often enough for me to not only see it through for a few dozen hours, but also want to keep filling out its almighty checklist, even if it lead me by the nose most of the way through.' With empowering combat, rewarding exploration, and a story that shines a spotlight on its characters through humor, Immortals Fenyx Rising leverages its myriad inspirations to discover its own identity and deliver an outstanding open-world experience.' Its combat is satisfying, with plenty of choice in upgrades, while its central characters, comedic tone, and storytelling are a real highlight. Seeing Fenyx’s saga through to the end, with amusing commentary from Zeus, Prometheus, and other gods along the way, is a treat. Its Achilles Heel, though, is that so much of the puzzle gameplay feels like going through the motions instead of clever challenges. In the end, I wish Immortals Fenyx Rising had tried to soar just a little higher on the wings of ambition.' For the full review please visit here.
NINTENDO LIFE (SCORE 7/10) 'Immortals Fenyx Rising tries to capture lightning in a bottle with its Breath of the Wild-inspired gameplay, but ends up being more of a lightning thief; it's not as nice to look at and the puzzles aren't as satisfying. Still, the combat is fun, the storytelling is excellent and, despite not being anywhere near as polished as Nintendo's 2017 effort, it certainly does a passable impression. If you crave more Zelda and don't mind the off-brand version, go for it, but if for some reason you still haven't played Breath of the Wild, then that's the game to go for.' But it conceptualizes a possible future despite itself, one in which games challenge you to form your own ideas, give you room to learn and to fail, and stop chasing boundless worlds in favor of unique ones.' Not bad, however, this is Ubisoft's third major open-world esque game in a space of a month so, I am not sure this manage to move the needle enough to get me eager to check it out right away. -YOU MAY ALSO BE INTERESTED IN:
