Dear IGN, I'm writing this letter because, despite our bad times and Good times, I must break up with you. How are you doing, 'Di Blog' fans? When we were in the middle of creating another animated project, we came across IGN's new top 25 countdown, which was, this time, based on the 25 best anime series of all time. Now, I don't usually involve myself in these countdowns from these Publishers because opinions are opinions, but something called to me this time, saying there's something I need to check on the list. And there it was, IGN had Dead Note at number 18th. The number 18 stopped me in my tracks because, to me this is one of the most influential anime series that came out in the last 20 years in my eyes, an opinion they even stated themselves in their article. I mean, I even overlooked Dragon Ball Z at 23 because when you think about it and get past the nostalgia, DBZ was not the greatest despite being the series that introduced many of us to the world of anime. But seeing Death Note at 18 stuck in my psyche as it's honestly one of my personal favourite anime of all time. And even though I would often have strong debates with good friends about the quality of the show after L's death, it should at least be top five...right? Ok...Ok... let's get to the rest of the list. As for the top five, we got Hajime No Ippo at number 5, Monster at 4, One Piece at 3, Cowboy Bebop at 2 and Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood sitting pretty at the top. Somewhat hard to argue with IGN's top 5 as all Monster is an underrated gem, One Piece is Outstanding, and Bebop is wildly considered the greatest dubbed anime of all time. Full Metal Alchemist as number 1 is debatably, but I have no qualms with it being in the top 5. So, that leaves Ippo and don't get me wrong, I love myself some Dempsey role, but I would replace its entry with Death Note...easily. I must give IGN some credit as modern classics such as FLCL, Code Geass and Neon Genesis Evangelion were not forgotten. Even modern-day darlings such as Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia made the cut. In the end, these lists are made to get tongues wagging, and with Death Note being soo low, they have succeeded. Bravo IGN... -YOU MAY ALSO BE INTERESTED IN:
