Ah yes...1997...the stock market crashed, Mike Tyson bites an ear, and OJ got squeezed. A truly memorable year that also gave us arguably the greatest sim racing series of all time, Gran Turismo. For a very long time, the Gran Turismo series was king, but in the last decade or so, its crown had been challenged (and in some people eyes even eclipsed it) by the emergence of the Forza series. Now, with the seventh entry in the series, Gran Turismo is hoping to once again finish in pole position, but did they succeed? Here's the review roundup: PLAYSTATION LIFE (SCORE 10/10) 'The Gran Turismo franchise has always impressed me, from 1997 until today. Kazunori Yamauchi had a vision in 1992 of a game that would look and feel just like real life. Gran Turismo 7 hits that mark dead on with the sights, the sounds, the physics, and the animations of real-world driving and real-world racing. How much more can the PS5 do? I’m not sure, but I am sure that developer Polyphony Digital must be pushing it to the max with Gran Turismo 7.' For the full review please visit here. SCREEN RANT (SCORE 4/5) 'Overall Gran Turismo 7 is a triumphant return for the series. It's not perfect thanks to the scope that it tries to cover, meaning that it can't be top notch across all modes of racing, but nonetheless the sheer diversity of the racing experience is enough to make Gran Turismo 7 worth playing. For those who want a title that walks that tight rope between sim racing and arcade well, this is an excellent choice as a PlayStation exclusive.' For the full review please visit here. DESTRUCTOID (SCORE 8.5/10) 'Gran Turismo 7 isn’t the second coming of racing games, and it doesn’t need to be. It still captures that feeling of spending hours and hours admiring your garage and flipping through car facts from a few of the best entries in the series, and still feels like a big-budget racer.' Not as bright or arrogant as Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec, nor as gorgeously-presented off the track as Forza Motorsport 7. But the most telling thing is that I just haven’t been able to stop playing it since I installed it, which I find is increasingly rare for a driving game. Gran Turismo 7 is the real deal and every PlayStation owner should buy it.' For the full review please visit here. IGN (SCORE 9/10) 'On the eve of the series’ 25th birthday, Gran Turismo 7 is more than just a celebration of cars this time around; in some ways, it’s also a celebration of itself. A modern mix of the original Gran Turismo’s trendsetting format with GT Sport’s stern but very successful focus on competitive online racing, this version is a potent podium performance from developer Polyphony Digital. With gorgeous graphics, a fantastic driving feel, and racing options galore, it’s the best the series has been since its dominant PlayStation 2 era. It does have some significant failings, though, including how it continues to cripple its career mode races with dreadfully flawed rolling starts, its car list is no longer as comprehensive as the competition, and its always-online single-player mode still seems needlessly punitive. But all of that is on the periphery of GT7’s outstanding driving experiences, which are enhanced by the PS5’s gorgeous graphics and intense and flavourful haptic feedback via the DualSense controller.' I am not ashamed to say that back then I was a huge Nintendo fanboy (some say I still am) mainly thanks to my trusty Nintendo 64 console, but I always prayed that by some define miracle, Gran Turismo would have made its way to my console of choice. All hail the king! -YOU MAY ALSO BE INTERESTED IN:
