With 2020 Academy Awards only a few weeks away (airing live on Feb. 9th), movie lovers got their first look at the full list of nominees. Blockbusters like Joker and 1917 lead the way with the most Oscar nominations but, as per usual, our focus will be on the Animation categories. This year sees the overwhelming favourite take on the surprise hit for 'Best Animation Feature' in the form of Toy Story 4 vs Klaus. While in the 'Best Animation Short category', Matthew A. Cherry and Karen Rupert Toliver's Hair Love is the darling contender that's going up against the likes of Siqi Song's Sister and Daria Kashcheeva's Dcera. Here is the full list of nominees for both categories:

Best  Animated   Feature   Film

  • How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (Dreamworks)
  • I Lost My Body (Netflix)
  • Klaus (Netflix)
  • Missing Link (United Artists Releasing)
  • Toy Story 4 (Pixar)
OUR VOTE:                          Klaus
MOST LIKELY WINNER: Toy Story 4

Best  Animated   Short   Film

  • Dcera (Daughter), Daria Kashcheeva
  • Hair Love, Matthew A. Cherry and Karen Rupert Toliver
  • Kitbull, Rosana Sullivan and Kathryn Hendrickson
  • Memorabl, Bruno Collet and Jean-François Le Corree
  • Sister, Siqi Song
OUR VOTE:                          Hair Love
MOST LIKELY WINNER: Hair Love
Just like last year's Academy Awards, the surprise hit and the best film maybe one and the same as I believe Klaus, should take the Best Animated Film in a canter. However, it will be going up against two established series from prominent winners Pixar/Dreamworks, so it's not a slam dunk victory just yet. As for the Best Animated Short, I throw my vote behind Hair Love and, while the Academy Awards issues with diversification are well documented at this point, I do believe it will take the crown as everyone has fallen in love with Hair Love. Bring on February 9th!
