Despite the mixed reviews from the critics (you can read all about it in our review roundup right here), there is no question that The Super Bros. Movie is a huge hit with fans worldwide. How much of a hit? Try $377 million global worth as it smash records globally. Such records that has made it the new king of Animated Films. Why is it the new King? Well...it now holds the record for the Biggest Worldwide Opening of All Time for an Animated Film. Super Mario passed up the global premiere of Walt Disney Animation's Frozen 2, which earned $358 million in November 2019, just before the COVID-19 crisis hit. And Super Mario is already the fourth-highest-grossing animated title of the epidemic period, with Universal taking all four slots. (the studio owns both Illumination and DreamWorks Animation). It warms my heart to see the success of some of the recent game-to-movie films (especially this one since it's FREAKING MARIO!). Even better, it seems there's no stopping this monster, as the film hasn't even been released in Japan at the time of writing this article.
