May is traditionally one of the leanest months when it comes to major game releases as the gaming industry usually preps for the Electronic Game Conference (E3) that takes place annually in early June. Nonetheless, we are getting a pretty decent package of fun games this month ranging from a major triple A shooter to a collection of 30 years old gaming classics in a beloved series. So without further adieu here are the games of May we believe should be on your radar:
RAGE 2 (MAY 14)
When the first Rage was released all the way back in 2011 by the legendary development studio iD Software, it never quite set the world ablaze despite its high expectations. Now in 2014, with the help of Avalanche Studio, Rage 2 arrives hoping to right the wrongs of the first game. Prepare to lay waste to both mutants and rebels in this First-Person open world shooter. The game releases this May 14th for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
Castlevania Anniversary Collection (May 16)
Is Rage 2 too modern for your taste? Then take a trip back (a looong trip back) to the golden years of gaming thanks to the Castlevania Anniversary Collection this May 16th on the Xbox One, PS4, PC and the Switch. Play classics like the first Castlevania, Simon's Quest, Dracula's Curse, Super Castlevania IV, The Adventure, Belmont's Revenge, Bloodlines, and for the first time ever in the west, Kid Dracula and, all for a messily $20USD.
Resident Evil 0/1/4 (May 21)
Speaking of old games, Capcom is bringing some of their titles from their acclaimed series Resident Evil to the Switch on May 21. The titles won't come to the console as a collection but, rather as individual games so you can enjoy the sweet gaming bliss which RE4 without regrets about not playing the very rough RE0. Controversially, however, each game will cost $30 bucks.
Team Sonic Racing (May 21)
Arriving just in time to perhaps flush out your system of that Sonic live action movie (yikes) comes Team Sonic Racing. Sonic once again decides to play fair and get behind a wheel in this follow up to the universally loved Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. This time it's just not all about coming in first place but, as the name suggests, about winning together. Team Sonic Racing speeds to release on May 21 for the Xbox One, PS4, PC and Switch.
So yeah, as stated in the introduction, May doesn't have the greatest of options to choose from this month but, there do exist some gems to enjoy. For more gaming check out the review roundup of PS4 exclusive Days Gone or the review roundup of indie darling Katana Zero.
