With Frozen 2's arrival in cinemas only a few weeks away and, Onward already pencilled in for an early 2020 release. You would be forgiven for thinking that Disney's hardest working animation studio would have taken a little break. Nope...as Pixar once again looks to treat both your eyes and your ears, this time via its latest musically inspired animated film, Soul. The plot of the movie revolves around Joe Gardner (voiced by Jamie Foxx), A middle school teacher and jazz musician living in New York City, he’s someone, Powers continues, “who’s lived his whole life like he was meant to do this one thing [music] to the exclusion of pretty every other thing.” As the norm with Pixar's movies things never goes smoothly as plan, as poor old Joe accidentally dies after getting his dreamed-about job of a lifetime. His soul then ends up at You Seminar, a celestial space where souls are made and given personalities before sent off to human bodies. With his soul at You Seminar, Joe meets 22 (Voiced by Tina Fey), a soul who loathes humans and avoids earth. Joe and 22 eventually team up and try to get his soul back to his body on Earth, which involves a journey through cosmic realms. Every musician knows the phrase “suffer for one’s art.” It’s what we often think of as “the artist’s journey,” says Kemp Powers, a writer and co-director on Pixar’s Soul. “For anyone who has a profession in the creative arts, it’s an almost religious obsessiveness you have to have to have success and a career in the arts. At any point, no matter how happy you are doing what you do, it feels like that obsessiveness is detrimental to the rest of your life.” If this all somewhat sounds similar to Pixar's Inside Out, it's because the two films share the same director in Pete Docter. I am somewhat excited for this one as I believed Inside Out was one of Pixar's best and, I can already imagine how amazing the soundtrack is going to be. Soul is slated for release in June of next Year. Here's a first look at the film in action: -YOU MAY ALSO BE INTERESTED IN
