As avid gamers, we eagerly anticipate the release of new titles, awaiting the opportunity to immerse ourselves in captivating worlds and engaging adventures. Today, we embark on a journey into the realm of Pikmin 4, the highly anticipated sequel to Nintendo's beloved strategy franchise. With the original games leaving an indelible mark on the gaming community, Pikmin 4 arrives on the Nintendo Switch, promising an enchanting blend of exploration, puzzle-solving, and the endearing charm that the series is known for. But is it the best in the series? Let's find out with the review roundup: Continue below for the written version. DESTRUCTOID (SCORE 9.5/10) 'As I was playing through Pikmin 4 and things really started to click, I thought to myself (with a smile on my face) – “I just want to play this forever.” It’s a strategically satisfying game if you want it to be, and it’s a chill rainy-day adventure if you’re going for that vibe. This is one of the releases I’m going to set aside time to 100% this year, and like Pikmin 3‘s Bingo Battle (which I still play!), I’ll be jumping into Dandori Battle from time to time with my family.' IGN (SCORE 9/10) 'Like the three wonderfully weird mainline games before it, Pikmin 4 has once again captured my heart with its charming creatures that fearlessly follow commands regardless of their own well-being. The difficulty leans a bit too much toward the easy side, but all-new features like ability upgrades, a pair of new Pikmin, and our loyal sidekick Oatchi add some variety to the traditional gameplay by offering options other than the grab-and-throw Pikmin formula of the past. Coupled with the largest number of enemies to battle, treasures to collect, and awesome post-game content that incorporates some great callbacks to the earlier games, I’m left with not just a positive outlook on Pikmin 4, but the direction the series is heading as a whole.' It's not removing the challenge entirely though, as there are plenty of moments that force you to make quick decisions or make small Pikmin sacrifices in the name of the greater good – or greater Dandori. The later stages of Pikmin 4 are formidable if you're looking for 100% completion, and with my current play time now sitting at almost 50 hours, there's plenty here to see and do and so much fun to be had along the way.' GAME INFORMER (SCORE 9/10) 'When it comes to iterating on the standard Pikmin gameplay established by the first release, Pikmin 4 is the smoothest, best-controlling, best-looking version, and all the additions are worthwhile and fun to play. The variety of tasks, which you can tackle in the order of your choice, prevents you from doing the same thing for too long, and I enjoyed saving other survivors and expanding my home base roster. Pikmin may never rise to the top of the Nintendo heap, and it’s probably unfair to expect it ever could, but the latest Pikmin is the best effort yet.' For the full review click here. GAMESPOT (SCORE 7/10) 'That story, like most of Pikmin 4, is gentle and unobtrusive. It's all just very agreeable and sweet, and there's a certain gratification that comes from directing your little army of plant-people to gather treasures like fruits and Game Boy Advance cartridges. The more Pikmin 4 leans into fashioning itself after a more traditional game, with competition and fail-states, the more prone it is to getting in its own way. Sometimes, it's enough to simply have a relaxing activity.' For the full review click here. NINTENDO LIFE (VIDEO REVIEW) Overall, after 65 critic reviews, Pikmin 4 averages an excellent 88% score on Metacritic. In contrast, Pikmin 3 managed to achieve a score of 87%, giving the impression that these two games are of similar experiences. Pikmin 4 may not go down as a Switch classic like Tears of the Kingdom or Mario Odyssey, but I am sure it oozes that old Nintendo magic like they do. And that is enough for me to be excited to add it to my collection. -YOU MAY ALSO BE INTERESTED IN
