The Paper Mario series may not be one Nintendo's most beloved IPs, but the Gamecube entry The Thousand Year Door (my favourite is Super Paper Mario) to this day has one of the largest cult followings. Now, this morning, out of literally nowhere, Nintendo quietly dropped a trailer and information about a new entry in the series titled Paper Mario: The Origami King, slated for THIS COMING JULY!
According to the Nintendo.com
The kingdom has been ravaged by an origami menace! Join Mario and his new partner, Olivia, as they team up with unlikely allies like Bowser and the Toads to battle evil Folded Soldiers.
Try to free Princess Peach’s castle from the clutches of King Olly in this comedy-filled adventure, only on the Nintendo Switch system.
Use the 1,000-Fold Arms ability to extend your arms to interact with the environment and solve puzzles. In battle, line up scattered enemies and plan your attack to maximize damage with the new, ring-based battle system that requires both puzzle-solving skills and a quick wit.
“Paper Mario: The Origami King delivers a grand new adventure on Nintendo Switch for players to wrap themselves up in,” said Nick Chavez, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “This game marks the debut of the Paper Mario series on Nintendo Switch, expanding the vast library of games with another standout entry in a beloved franchise.”
Honestly, I am still in shock that Nintendo stealth revealed such a huge game like this, especially one that is releasing so soon. Perhaps, they felt left out from all the 'Next-Gen Mania' that has been going on this past month? Or perhaps this is another resulting consequence of the current COVID-19 era? Regardless I am beyond excited, and can't wait to see more.
Paper Mario: The Origami King releases this July 17.
