NEWS: SPIDER MAN AND BAO TOOK HOME THE OSCARS

​There were some surprises at this years staging of the Academy Awards (namely just how well the show ran without a host), but there was no surprise upset when the winner of the Animation Feature Film category was announced. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was heavy favourites for the victory despite going up against tough opponents in Ralph Breaks the Internet and Isle of Dogs so many saw their win as richly deserved. The movie's victory also capped off a pretty good night for Marvel as they took home four awards in total (Black Panther got the other three).  

As for the other Animation category, Domee Shi's BOA took home the top honours for Best Animated Short Film.  The short was released with Incredibles 2 on June 15, 2018, and features a touching tale about an ageing and lonely Chinese-Canadian mother, suffering from empty nest syndrome, who receives an unexpected second chance at motherhood when she makes a baozi dumpling that comes to life as a boy. ​

Our congratulations to both winners and to all of this year's nominees.
