We mentioned in our previous post just how much Netflix had been on point with their animation productions this past year and now they got further proof there are indeed on the right path as their original produced anime DEVILMAN CRYBABY was dubbed Anime of the Year at the recently concluded Cruncyroll Animation awards. Created by animation studio SCIENCE SARU, the series contains only 10 episodes and features a plot about an ancient race of demons that returned to take back the world from humans. Believing that the only way to defeat the demons is to incorporate their powers, best friends Ryo & Akira devise a plan that Akira would unite with a demon. Succeeding in doing so, Akira transforms into Devilman, possessing the powers of a demon but retaining the soul of a human.
DEVILMAN went up against the likes of A Place Further Than the Universe, ZOMBIE LAND SAGA and Violet Evergarden with the series director Masaaki Yuasa also winning the 'Best Director' award. The night also belonged to MY HERO ACADEMIA as it won the most awards including the awards for 'Best Film' and 'Best Fight Scene'.
