It has been some time since I last did my monthly game releases previews (six months in fact...yikes), but I am happy to announce its sabbatical is ending with this upcoming month of games...and dear lord, what an incredible month of games it will be! This February got to be the most 'bursting at the seam of quality games' we have seen in sometimes. There's literally a quality game for everyone coming up, or if you are someone who got to play them all, prepare to have your wallet on life support. I did my best to pick out the 5 best, so without further adieu, here are the upcoming February games you need to keep an eye on:
DYING LIGHT 2 (fEB. 4)
At a time when Zombies games were plentiful like well...zombies Techland's Dying light didn't quite revolutionized the genre, but what it accomplished shake up the formula just enough to not only be memorable but also a lot of fun. A formula fans is further expanded upon and enhanced with the much anticipated sequel Dying Light 2.
sifu (feb. 8)
We will admit that Sifu is the game with least fan fare on this list. It got a lukewarm introduction during one of Playstation's State of Play, but has since looked better and better with each new trailer. Sifu is an upcoming beat 'em up action-adventure video game developed and published by French studio Sloclap, and was inspired by Pak Mei kung fu including over 150 unique attacks. The game is set to be released for Windows, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on 8 February 2022.
THE KING OF FIGHTERS XV (FEB 17)
Speaking of digital fisty-cups, can you believe the famous The King of Fighter series is turning 15? Yes, SNK's most prized fighting game series is back and this time expect better graphics, new/old faces, roll back netcode and the shattering of your expectations.
HORIZON FORBIDdEN WEST (FEB 18)
We have finally reached the big boys...and err girls. Wildly considered as a Game of the Year contender, to say that Horizon Forbidden West is highly anticipated would be an understatement. As the sequel to the critical darling Zero Dawn, gamers this time will explore the mysterious frontier known as the Forbidden West, a post-apocalyptic version of the western United States.
ELDEN RING (FEB. 25)
When the writer of acclaim tv series Game of Thrones and the developers of the acclaim game series Dark Souls decide to team for a new game...you bet your ass it will be on many people radars. Elden Ring is an action role-playing game played in a third-person perspective and features elements similar to those found in its predecessors, the Souls series as well as Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, with gameplay focusing on combat and exploration.
And there you have it, February is definitely a paradise for those that adore the grand open adventure genre, but there are a few tasty nuggets for those that don't. It promises to be a pretty fun 2022 if the start of it is anything to go by.
