Ash Is Back After All

A few weeks ago, the main character from the Pokemon anime made headlines as Ash finally won a major Pokemon title. It was a momentous occasion in pop culture and one that got many fans, including me, thinking 'what does this victory mean for the series going forward?' Furthermore, rumours swirled that Ash winning only meant that he was going to hang up his Poke balls and we would be introduced to a new protagonist. In the end, it was a bit of both as a new poster/teaser trailer for the new season not only revealed a new main character but also confirmed that Ash was indeed coming back.

As the poster to the left shows, it seems the overall theme of this season will revolve around travelling the world. The new character in the red & grey t-shirt is named Gou, and along with his Scorbunny will be joining Ash on his journey to become a Pokemon Master. Also, despite the new Pokemon games Sword & Shield taking place in the Galar region, the many real-world looking landmarks from the poster gives the impression that Gou and Ash will travel to many different regions, including maybe Ash's past stops (that does look like the Kalos tower in the bottom right). The poster also gives us a glimpse at the new season's art-style that appears to differ from Sun & Moon's.
The new Pokemon anime series will premiere on November 17 with a one-hour special. That date is conveniently, also only two days after Pokemon Sword and Shield is released on the Nintendo Switch. I have gone on record hoping for change for the anime series after Ash's Aloha triumph but also a bit relieved to see him back. Pokemon just wouldn't have been the same without him.
