In fact, we are actually getting nine as the house of mouse decided to play loose with their most prized possession and gave six established Japanese anime studios a crack at telling their own Star Wars stories. This unlikely union gave birth to a new Disney+ series called Star Wars: Visions, and from the looks of its debut trailer, it looks great.
Star Wars: Visions is an upcoming Japanese anime anthology series produced by Lucasfilm Animation. The series consists of nine short films produced by six Japanese animation studios; Kamikaze Douga, Twin Engine, Trigger, Kinema Citrus, Production I.G., and Science SARU, each telling their own original stories based on the Star Wars universe. It is scheduled for release on the Disney+ streaming service on September 22, 2021.
This is an intriguing project by Disney and Lucas Animation, one they hope will pay off. I, for one, only needed the mad geniuses over at Trigger Studio attached to this to pony up my money for another month of Disney+.
The force is strong with this one...
